Ontario announces agreement with Ontario Land Surveyors to acquire source property information

Pickering, Ontario, November 22, 2012 - The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with the Ontario Digital Cadastre Corporation (ODCC) to acquire Property Dimension Reports for plans of subdivisions, also known as M-Plans, directly from land surveyors. Receiving this information directly from the source is integral to MPAC’s ability to provide timely and consistent assessment of new construction in Ontario.

By receiving this data directly from surveyors, MPAC will be able to improve the accuracy and consistency of the information used to assess properties.

“Receiving this critical information in a format that requires no transcribing or calculation means MPAC can add growth to municipal assessment rolls in a timelier manner,” says Antoni Wisniowski, MPAC’s President and Chief Administrative Officer. The agreement with the ODCC is significant as almost half of all residential assessment growth in Ontario can be attributed to subdivisions.

The ODCC is a wholly owned, for profit subsidiary of the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors (AOLS). The AOLS is responsible for the licensing and governance of professional land surveyors, in accordance with the Surveyors Act. Ontario’s land surveyors are the sole source of property dimension information in the province.

“This agreement with ODCC is an important first step in MPAC’s commitment to capturing 100 per cent of available assessment growth within 12 months of commencement of use by 2016.  It will also enhance MPAC’s internal processes through integrated business to business services,” says Wisniowski.
