More than 44% of the new residential units built were in the top 10 municipalities with the most residential units built. Here’s the breakdown by type of residential unit. Ottawa holds first place for the most new residential units built in the municipality in 2022 at 7,257, up from 5,846 in 2021. The breakdown in unit types includes 3,120 detached units, up from 2,587; 274 semi-detached units, up from 128; 3,139 townhouse units, up from 2,621; 49 other units, up from 22; and 675 residential condominium units, up from 488.

Toronto holds second place for the most new residential units built in the municipality in 2022 at 4,004, down from 6,149 in 2021. The breakdown in unit types includes 863 detached units, down from 1,154; 55 semi-detached units, up from 47; 217 townhouse units, down from 253; 97 other units, up from 46; and 2,772 residential condominium units, down from 4,649.

London holds third place for the most new residential units built in the municipality in 2022 at 1,937, up from 1,178 in 2021. The breakdown in unit types includes 1,160 detached units, up from 728; 1 semi-detached unit, down from 3; 178 townhouse units, up from 75 in 2021; 16 other units, down from 45; and 582 residential condominium units, up from 327.

Whitby holds fourth place for the most new residential units built in the municipality in 2022 at 1,335, up from 842 in 2021. The breakdown in unit types includes 688 detached units, up from 401; 146 semi-detached unit, up from 133; 491 townhouse units, up from 308; 10 other units, up from none in 2021; and there were no residential condominiums built in the municipality in 2022 or 2021.

Brampton holds fifth place for the most new residential units built in the municipality in 2022 at 1,313, down from 1,956 in 2021. The breakdown in unit types includes 728 detached units, down from 791; 129 semi-detached unit, down from 227; 361 townhouse units, down from 719; 2 other units, up from 1; and 93 residential condominium units, down from 218.

Hamilton holds sixth place for the most new residential units built in the municipality in 2022 at 1,305, up from 1,242 in 2021. The breakdown in unit types includes 537 detached units, up from 533; 196 semi-detached unit, up from 79; 405 townhouse units, up from 338 in 2021; 10 other units, which was the same in 2021; and 157 residential condominium units, down from 282.

Oakville holds seventh place for the most new residential units built in the municipality in 2022 at 1,142, up from 807 in 2021. The breakdown in unit types includes 764 detached units, up from 558; 4 semi-detached unit, up from 2; 311 townhouse units, up from 25; and 63 residential condominium units, down from 222.

Kitchener holds eighth place for the most new residential units built in the municipality in 2022 at 951, up from 833 in 2021. The breakdown in unit types includes 464 detached units, up from 409; 16 semi-detached unit, up from 21; 284 townhouse units, up from 200; 9 other units, up from 8; and 178 residential condominium units, down from 195.

Cambridge holds ninth place for the most new residential units built in the municipality in 2022 at 789, up from 426 in 2021. The breakdown in unit types includes 185 detached units, down from 117; 4 semi-detached unit, down from 8; 586 townhouse units, up from 281; and 14 residential condominium units, down from 20.

Vaughan holds tenth place for the most new residential units built in the municipality in 2022 at 777, down from 2,198 in 2021. The breakdown in unit types includes 494 detached units, down from 685; 0 semi-detached units, down from 9; 190 townhouse units, down from 268; 0 other units, down from 24; and 93 residential condominium units, down from 1,212.
