Valuing Ontario together

Woman wearing surgical mask standing beside MPAC vehicleDuring the pandemic, we’ve turned to our relationships with municipal partners across Ontario to get creative, innovate and collaborate on how we can safely share information.

This month we introduced a curbside pickup program to collect building plans from municipalities, which help us complete timely and accurate assessments of new property. We’re also making appointments to view building plans inside municipal offices when required. During these interactions, the safety of MPAC and municipal staff is a top priority for us.

This new in-person program supports municipalities that are unable to share digital building plans with us through a secure online portal we launched in June. We’ve received digital building plans from over 150 municipalities to date.

By working with municipalities to adapt our processes, we’re continuing to assess new construction and renovations in spite of the pandemic, which in turn creates a new source of tax revenue for municipalities that will be more important than ever as they manage the financial impacts of COVID-19.

We are also continuing to expand our field work across Ontario by gradually returning to external property inspections as regions reopen. So far, most property owners have been very supportive of our work.

We are committed to supporting our municipal partners in these ways, and through our daily work to keep our database of Ontario’s 5.3 million properties current and accurate. We will continue to value Ontario, together.
